The business value of IBM Maximo

I have just finished reading a white paper on the business value of Maximo.  This was put together by IDC and is interesting.  You can download a copy from here -> https://www.isw.net.au/maximo-white-paper

Many of the examples and figures in this are based off large international organisations with up to 40K employees, looking beyond the staggering numbers is a clear message, a good system, well implemented will save your organisation in multiple ways:

  • Avoiding unnecessary operational costs

  • Improving productivity

  • Modernising business processes

  • Minimising unplanned downtime/decreasing time to resolution

  • Improving asset management maturity

  • Better compliance and risk management

These improvements are driven by:

  • Investing in and continual improvement in the digitisation of systems

  • Better access to more data across those systems

We know some organisations that have decided not to pursue Maximo due to costs.  In some scenarios, I think these decisions may be a bit short-sighted.  Sure, you have a budget constraints that can be a problem but have you really considered the total costs AND BENEFITS of your chosen solution?  It can be hard to quantify the real world benefits to your organisation especially based on an expected outcome, this paper shows there are clear tangible benefits and you should consider your longer term plan and strategy as any move in this space is a strategic investment sand should be considered not just for the problems you have here and now but also considering your long term drivers and ambitions around your asset management maturity.
